WHAT AM I READING?

This week I got a twofer for you, check out House of M: Warzones and Uncanny X-Men: Revolutions.  The Secret Wars Battleworld tie-in, House of M sees Cullen Bunn continue the journey of a few of his characters he's been writing during his tenure at Marvel including Deathlockette.  Great art, fun story, it's worth a read.

Speaking of great art, one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES, Chris Bachalo teams with another of my ALL TIME FAVORITES Brian Michael Bendis, and one of my favorite properties, X-Men?!  This is crazy!  Check it out.

Hey Nerds!

It's Tuesday and you here's some music to pick you up!

Man, that's fun.

WHAT AM I WATCHING?

So this weekend I binged Umbrella Academy.  We talked about it briefly on Nerd Thug Radio, no spoilers on it but we talked about how great it was.  This is a phenomenal show, great casting, great looking, great flow, the changes all work and make perfect sense.  Proof that Netflix has the ability to develop top level content from any source.

That other time I made a TV show...

Hey Nerds!

So it seems a few of you liked me posting the comic book thing.  It was a really cool experience seeing my project go from concept to comic, at the time there weren't nearly as many publishers as there are now and the ones that I wanted to work with wouldn't return my calls and the ones I should have been working with didn't want to do comic books about superheroes, which is cool but in hindsight a little frustrating.  I sort of attacked the goal backwards, I should've gone to a publisher first, gotten in with them slightly, then made the book with them in mind and gone from there, but hey 25 year old me couldn't be told anything, he was a wrecking ball in all the most eager of ways.  Anyways about a year and a half ago I made a pilot for a television show, things were going great at Nerd Thug and we were developing a partnership with an unnamed local station and they basically told me I could give them anything I wanted and they would air it free of charge, so I shot a pilot with the intention of getting sponsors to pay the people involved for their hard work and time and then shooting a season and then going from there.  I honestly don't ever remember taking a meeting with any sponsors and don't think much happened past the pilot getting made, because by the time it was all said and done that moment had kind of passed.  I enjoyed it and shout out to everyone involved they were so generous with their time and talent and I truly appreciate it.  Anyway here's the link...

Boners.

Some fun things!

Hey Nerds!

So I got a funny email yesterday congratulating me on my six month anniversary with the Universal Life Church Ministries and it reminded me, I am indeed, a Reverend.  The short version is I got ordained online to wed two of my close friends at their crazed request, and the shorter version is, I'm ordained and you're probably not.

Another cool thing is about ten years ago I wanted to be a comic creator, I still do, but I realized I don't have the funds to keep working on stuff and keep doing it totally on my own (i was waiting tables at the time and trust me, I'm not a good waiter).  Check out this book I did make, it's a one shot and I still think it's funny.

Another Day At The Office

Also this week I had another article ran on Sports Map Houston, I'm loving writing these weekly wrestling round ups and I hope to kind of grow my writing career this year even more.  Anyway, check it out!

The Wrestling Report.

Thanks for checking in!

The journey continues!

Hey Nerds!

Check out who had another article published, that's right, this guy!

Check this out!

It's important to celebrate the accomplishments because I can assure you, they are few and far between.

WHAT AM I READING?

This one is weird, it's called Monstress.  The art is amazing, the story is a little crazy and hard to follow in the beginning but the art is so gorgeous that honestly, you stay in longer than you would.  It all works itself out and by the end of the first volume, it's leaves everything in an intriguing place.  Worth the trippy read.

Grinding.

Hey Nerds!

So like everyone else there are definitely days where I do not want to get out of bed and get the things done that I need to.  Just remember this, everyday you work on your goals gets you one day closer to nailing them!  Just keep grinding it out.

WHAT AM I WATCHING?

So this pains me greatly to do, but this week's recommendation is Young Justice: Outsiders.  The third season of the reincarnated animated series is at it's mid-season break and it's great.  Right now the only place you can find it unfortunately is on the DC Universe app/website which comes with a price tag of $8.99 a month and so far has two new shows on it but it has added the last two DC animated movies on their national release date.  I'm still not sure if you're getting a value from this app, but at the very least this show is great.

Mondays, the most important brick!

Hey Nerds,

So I say this on the show regularly, Monday is the most important day of the week, because with it, you get to build your whole week.  This is where successes and failures happen.  To help illustrate that point, watch this entire Lego city get built, one brick at a time, and remember, setting yourself up for success is how you succeed.

One brick at a time baby!

Weekend Soundtrack!

Hey Nerds!

Great news, Weezer just released the album you didn't know you were asking for, and this weekend it's baller 80's covers all weekend!

House of DLG

Hey Nerds!!

As this week draws to a close, it's important to work to make sure you accomplish all your goals.  The rush you get from knocking things off the to-do list, is awesome.  You can do it, stay focused!

WHAT AM I READING?

So this week, I read "House of M" the awesome Marvel cross over event featuring The Avengers and the X-Men dealing with a reality altered by Scarlet Witch in which her father, Magneto is ruler of the world and mutants are the power class of the reality.  Check this out!  House of M.

Late Night Post!

Hey Nerds!

First up, I had another article published on Sports Map, check it out!

Secondly, sorry for the lateness, it's been crazy at the casa de DLG, but things are due to settle down soon.

WHAT AM I READING?

So I finally finished the four book "Freedom Series" by reading Freedom's Ransom.  Honestly, it isn't all that satisfying a conclusion to the series and it feels like an over extended chapter about a trip to Earth after the occupation and a trip to the merchant planet Barevi.  It isn't on par with the others and there are somethings about the editing that catch my attention, in the preface of this book they introduce another alien race as though it has been there the whole time and then it gets no other mention in the book other than that they exist.  It is, confusing, to say the least.  Overall it's a good series, and I enjoyed the first three books, but the fourth was a bit of a waste and felt like an unnecessary chapter to add to the story.

Putting in the work.

Hey Nerds!

It's important to remember on days like today where I honestly just feel "blah", I didn't want to get out of bed, I didn't want to write this blog, I didn't want to work on everything I'm doing these days (more to come on this later), but no matter what, you gotta get up and put in the work, even when you don't want to.  Don't lose a day you'll wish you had down the road.

WHAT AM I WATCHING?

So I just finished season 2 of Runaways, on Hulu.  It's good, but I can see where this show teeters with falling off the rails.  If you're a casual fan, if you aren't interested in comic stuff, this show starts to drift into the realm of unwatchable, they have a lot going on.  They got witches, aliens, shape shifters, super science tech, hacking, evil non profits that work for a rogue alien hell bent on destroying the world...  There's a lot and this finale makes it obvious there will be even more to come, but I enjoyed it, the kids nailed it and there's a ton of great music and moments in this show!

Let's nail this week!

Hey Nerds!

So we're going to attack this week right guys?  It's Monday and this is the day we build the week, so are you building the week for success or failure?  Check out friend of the Nerd Thugs, Vita Ayala, who just today the announcement released will be working on Xena, Warrior Princess!

So her week is starting out great, what about your week?

Friday, January 18, 2019

It's a glorious friday, let's do our best to make this a great weekend!

Hey Nerds!

Like the title says, it's the beginning of a great weekend, so lets all enjoy it!!

To set a nice chill tone, here's Khalid's NPR Tiny Desk show, 13 mins of just chill music.  You're welcome.

Finish this week strong, make sure to check out Nerd Thug Radio on FM 104.5 and 106.1 in Conroe or the podcast at 6:01 pm today!

Somehow, someway

Hey Nerds,

We're going to start by pointing out that my third article for Sports Map is now published, I'm going to try and make this a weekly thing but ultimately it's up to them.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE click here!!! Thanks.

So lately I have been jamming the Enter the Spider-verse soundtrack, hold the eye rolls, it's great, seriously. From Post Malone to Lil Wayne to Minaj it is CRAZY!

WHAT HAVE I BEEN READING?

Well if you've been following the blog, you should know by now I'm a completionist so obviously I'm on book three of Anne McCaffrey's Freedoms Challenge.  The series hits a good stride here and the ending of this one is a game changer to the Freedom universe.  Check it out.

The secret to getting there.

Hey Nerds!

Today's message is a simple one and it's something I've learned over the past few years, if you want to do it, don't tell anyone.

It sounds counter intuitive, because we ant the support, but I've always found that your loved ones are also the ones most scared for you and therefore will give you every reason you shouldn't do something.  It isn't that they don't like you or want you to succeed, it's that they're worried.  But this guy has a whole other set of reasons you shouldn't do it.  He says your brain takes the reward of other people's excitement from your announcement and then you are less encouraged by your brain to do it.  Your brain is even lazier than every meme ever said it was, who knew?

WHAT AM I READING?

When I start reading something, I have to finish it and this is no exception, Uncanny X-Force Vol 2.  Rick Remender gets in there and finishes out his awesome storyline, you see all the character arcs run to their conclusion and there are some surprises and twists to the big finish.  Check this out if you love Wolverine or Deadpool or Fantomex or Psylocke.  Seriously, any of them.

Fast Food on a Platter

Hey Nerds!!

So one thing I love about being a nerd is finding new things in the pop culture, and learning new mythos and things.  Not everything is for me, but I love finding out.  Yesterday on the show we talked about some things we can't really get into as nerds.  Check it out!

WHAT AM I WATCHING?

So in the vein of seeking new things, I like to watch youtube "trailer" videos, where it's like all the movies coming from a studio over the next six months and it's just trailer after trailer, sometimes there's some real gems in there.  It's how I discovered "Upgrade" which was interesting, but was a little too dark for my liking and the person I brought to see it thought it was TERRIBLE, but I liked it.  Anyway, this is how I discovered what I watched this week, "Kin".  An adopted boy finds an alien gun in an abandoned building and his older brother gets out of jail, these two stories collide in a fantastic coming of age story, it's subtle, there's a lot of cool shots in the movie, the way the two worlds collide is really cool.  It's a low key sci-fi movie and I loved it.  Trust me on this one, check out Kin.

What does success look like?

Hey Nerds!

Sometimes we don't realize what it takes to succeed, sometimes we know what it takes but we haven't properly motivated ourselves to succeed.  Head coach of the New Orleans Saints, Sean Payton, realized this and put together a great visual for his team.  NFL players don't get paid for the post season, it isn't in their contracts, they might get bonuses but not paid, the players do get a percentage of ticket sales from the playoffs though and it works out that for three playoff games it's roughly $250,000.  So Sean Payton showed his team what they would get if they win the next three games and they responded by winning the first of those three this weekend.

So what does your success look like?  Visualize it and pursue it!

Later Nerds!

Friday!

Hey Nerds!

It's Friday so we all know what that means, it's netflix binging time!  Woo!

This week there's a few new things but next week, there's The Punisher!!

Get pumped, cause I am!!

Lightning strikes twice!

Hey Nerds!!

Just want everyone to know that I've just had my second article in a row published on Sports Map.  I'm working on keeping everyone up to date on this year in wrestling.

So click on the link, read it, don't read it, I don't care just click the link, please and thank you!

WHAT AM I READING?

The second book in Anne McCaffrey's Freedom series, Freedom's Choice.  The drama is building, things are going down and for a middle book it tells it's own story, this is a good series for sci-fi fans.

Wednesday, January 9, 2019

Motivation Time!

What's up Nerds!

Alright man, there's tons going on and honestly sometimes when there's a lot of stuff on the plate, it gets real easy to say "eh" and put stuff off, it's a habit I'm trying to break and I bet I'm not alone.  Then you see a guy do something in a new and inventive way and I'm back in!!

WHAT AM I READING?

This week I'm enjoying the first half of Rick Remender's run on Uncanny X-Force.  They do some awesome stuff bringing in elements of the fan favorite Age of Apocalypse, adding some cool story to the most under utilized X-Man from the original five, Angel.  Wolverine, Deadpool and Fantomex all have some wonderful character beats in this run and I highly recommend it.  Check it OUT!!

Peace Nerds!!

Return of Young Justice

Hello Nerds!

The Talent here just popping in to talk one of my favorite properties of ALL TIME!  Young Justice.

Great comic, better cartoon and an integral part of every 90's teenager or 00's teenager experience depending on how you found them.  The comic was hyper exciting had fun art from guys like Humberto Ramos and was the cool younger kids that I guess would one day replace the Titans when the Titans got too old to be Teens...?  That part was never really explained.

If you're younger, than you know the criminally underrated cartoon, in all it's angtsy great teenage goodness!  The tragically short first season can be found right here.

Good news for fans of all formats, they're back!

DC Streaming premiered Season 3's first three episodes Friday and they're just as good, the tone remains consistent, the characters are clearly dealing with the first two seasons issues and things are entertaining.  I'm not a fan of how the app works, I hate that it isn't available in more places and I'm a little insulted that they charge $7.99 and now are sending Titans to Netflix, overall they're kind of pooping on their customers, BUT they brought back freaking Young Justice!!

And if you're a comics fan, Brian Michael Bendis is relaunching the title THIS WEEK!!!!  Wednesday get into your local nerd store and buy two copies cause you'll probably "SQUEE!!" the first one to death.  Bendis is the guy I trust to write young heroes, he nailed Ultimate Spider Man in the least R Kelly way possible and he was a major architect for a long time at Marvel.  Heck he just got thanked by the spider-verse creators at the Golden Globes by NAME and now he's launching Young Justice.  GET READY!!!

WHAT AM I WATCHING?

I suppose this week is a twofer, cause yeah, I'm watching Young Justice, but I also found something on Netflix that is well worth the watch, THE FIX!!!  The guys involved are all hilarious comics in their own right and they bring in a lot of new voices, it is funny as can be.  I out loud gut laughed multiple times, it's hilarious.  CHECK IT OUT!!

Good News Monday!

Hey Nerds,

So the 2019 quest to make the world a better place continues right here, as I make it my mission to improve your Mondays.

I recently had a shift in thinking about Mondays and the reality is that this is the day we start the week and our attitude about how we handle the start of something goes a LONG way to determining the tone and the outcome.  So let's start the week positive, let's start the week exciting or at least in a good mood.  So to that end, I give you a blog a I just found that seems like a great one, and in this one, they highlight some good news stories from 2018.  Read them and happy weep.

See you tomorrow nerds!

Wildcard picks!

Hello Nerds!

Check out this week's episode of Ball Control where I pick the wildcard winners and talk about the head coaching vacancies in the NFL, short blog but a full hour of sports brilliance.

Who you got this weekend?

Thursday, January 3, 2019

Everyone has a price.

In honor of getting my first article of 2019 published on Sports Map Houston, we'll keep this one short and sweet and in honor of WWE.

Here's that time I had a very interesting conversation with The Million Dollar Man, Ted Dibiase.

It's worth a listen just for his take on why leaving the WWE for the WCW was the worst decision for his career.

WHAT AM I READING?

Today I'm going to steer your attention to one of my favorite authors of all time Anne McCaffrey.  She wrote various series and was a massive influence on my love of dragons, time travel and strong female leads in fiction.  This is one of her lesser series but I strongly recommend starting with this one as it's the most grounded in modern earth as a starting point, it's Freedom's Landing.

The Freedom series follows a group of humans after an alien invasion, one of the ways this powerful alien race expands it's empire is by dumping unruly captives on uncolonized planets and just seeing how they do, this series follows one such group on one such planet and it's excellent.

This year's motivation

What's up Nerds, this is Cory DLG and welcome back to my blog.

So yesterday we debuted the shorter more fun, light hearted version of the blog and we're going to bring it right down today.  Kidding, kind of.

For those who know me personally, they know my Dad passed November 4th last year, and he and I were a lot alike.  This isn't meant to be a downer post but more of an explanation post, he was one of my best friends and one of the most supportive guys but he also had a ton of bad habits and honestly those are the things that I see in myself that I need to break.  Those include writing, and putting myself out there creatively, it isn't that he never wanted me to do those things, it's that when I didn't push myself to do more he was ok with it, because I was ok with it.  NOT his fault, but totally my fault.

So that being said, I'm working on my weight, I'm pushing myself creatively and I have goals this year that exceed my current grasp.  All that being said, one of our first guests in the studio (something I'm SO grateful he got to see) was Dad, check out the DLG Takeover.

WHAT ARE YOU READING?

So this was a crazy cool storyline, massive epic stakes, cool villains and its always fun to see all these iterations of, of course, Spider-Man!  Spider-Verse, the complete trade was a great read and sets up some cool beats for all of these different spiders, thwip on over and read it!

I totally loved it.

2019 the year of the Blog

Welcome one and all to a brand new year, that's right is 2019 mother F'ers!!  Unless you do the chinese new year, in which case we've got some time to kill...

Still with me?!  Sweet, this is where Cory DLG gets his blog on, enter the mind of a man who may just be out of his mind.  Today I'm keeping it simple...

HERE'S SOMETHING YOU SHOULD WATCH

So one night I'm half asleep and I wake up to someone being funny on the TV and to my surprise it's something I've never seen before but it's funny, then it was actiony and then it was sad.... I was hooked.  And IT WAS ANIMATED.

Olan Rogers is credited as the creator and frankly the guy is dynamic, it's a great watch and here's the link.  So far the only place I've found it for streaming/online purchasing is Amazon Prime Video (that's a lot of words, AMPVi?), it should be checked out.

It's called FINAL SPACE!!

Check it out.

SOMETHING I SAID LATELY

On yesterday's show Joey Savage asked how I felt about the upcoming movie slate for 2019, it's around the 42 minute mark.

Check out my opinions because I'm amazing.
